ACL Injuries & Post-Flight Recovery Tips: June Newsletter
ACL Injuries
How do they start?
Any activity involving sudden stops, jumps, or changes in direction can cause direct trauma or twisting of the knee resulting in a tear.
When do I consult my doctor?
If you experience a loud pop in your knee, severe pain or swelling, knee instability or non weight bearing, and limited range of motion.

How long does it take to heal?
Recovery depends on the severity. Partial tears (non-surgical) are typically 2-3 months and complete tears (surgical) are typically 6-12 months.

How To Avoid the Post Flight Hobble
Picture this: your flight lands and you stand up, feeling ready to conquer the day! If you’re like me, this is typically not the case. My back, legs, and neck are all protesting against me. So, here are a few ways to prepare for a smooth flight!
- HYDRATE! Drink plenty of water the day before and day of the flight.
- Exercise: Before your flight, take a light walk around the terminal.
- Purchase a travel pillow, don’t sleep on the tray table or lean over on a loved ones shoulder.
- Wear comfortable shoes and least restrictive clothing.
- FOAM ROLL. Use a foam roller or massage ball to release tension.
